What will your Roselawn child do in music?
All Roselawn music students will be exposed to music from various cultures, styles and genres as well as explore music of composers and musicians throughout points of history. Movement in relation to our musical concepts in an intregal part of our music program. Each student will be involved in preparing and performing a themed concert during the course of the year.
KINDERGARTEN students will sing songs with the class, play a steady beat, echo a three pitch melody along with read and write music showing their understanding of music.
FIRST GRADE students will explore their own voice, play 4-beat rhythm patterns, compose known rhythms, improvise a three note melody as well as read and write known pitches and rhythm.
SECOND GRADE students will be aware of using a singing voice, perform the rhythm of the words on instruments, improvise a rhythmic answer to a question, compose a three pitch melody, read and write known rhythm patterns and known pitches using notation.
THIRD GRADE students will sing songs in parts, play 4-beat rhythm patterns and 4-beat ostinatos, improvise a three pitch melody, compose an 8-beat rhythm pattern using known rhythms along with read and write known rhythm patterns and known pitches using notation.
FOURTH GRADE students will sing songs in parts using canons and counter-melodies, play a 5-pitch melody on a recorder, play a contrasting part in an ensemble, improvise an 8-beat melody, compose a 16-beat melody, read and write rhythm patterns in 4/4 time and read pitches using staff notation.
FIFTH GRADE students will sing a descant against a melody, play 8-beat rhythm patterns to accompany music, improvise an 8-beat melody, compose a melody using musical form, read absolute pitches from the staff as well as read and write known rhythm patterns.
